Pablo & Noel in NYC: workshops June 30 – July 9
Beloved in the New York area as they are anywhere they teach, Pablo Pugliese and Noel Strazza, each already a tango star in their own right, began dancing together in 2006. The both bring deep knowledge of the history and culture of tango as well as the latest updates and techniques, and are known for transmitting a tremendous amount of helpful information to their students in a fun way. Get ready to delve into some super-cool moves, in a series of workshops that is skewed toward more advanced dancers, but includes a couple of topics any dancer can join us in.
Noel started dancing modern dance at age 10 and after a successful career in that form, began tango in 1997, dancing and touring for 5 years with Pablo Veron, star of the movie, The Tango Lesson.
Pablo began his study of the Argentine Tango in 1989 with his parents, Esther and Mingo, who were two of the central figures in the contemporary history of Argentine tango, having taught an entire generation of social dancers, as well as some of the most prestigious tango professionals in the world today. (They were two of my most important teachers as well!) Pablo started performing tango professionally at age 10, toured and taught in the U.S., Europe, and Japan by age 15, and then lived in New York for several years, studying at Alvin Ailey.

Saturday, July 1st:
1 pm–2:30 ~ Rebotes (INT-ADV) Make your tango more dynamic and fun by adding this element to your repertory. (We talk about rebotes in terms of rebounding changes of weight, we also use it loosely as a term to describe quick and short pivot that change direction)

Sunday, July 2:

Advanced Tango Classes: Thursdays April through June
Advanced Tango Classes taught by Rebecca Shulman
440 Lafayette, room 3C
just south of Astor Place in Manhattan ~ many subways nearby
7 pm – 8:30 every Thursday through the end of June
Advanced topics will range from big, bold, & confident to tiny, quick, and possibly exquisite.
Overall, we'll be dancing classic & modern tango moves in a range of sizes, and with a dynamic mix of elements: sacadas, including back sacadas, front ganchos, and some big swingy alterations, spiced with compact back crosses, quick baby ochos, a tiny traditional vaiven. Boleos will be danced in a range of sizes as well: we started last week with the smallest, safest, most compact boleos, and we'll expand on those. In the last week of May we'll revisit those serpentine sacadas we learned last month. Time will be given to explore the qualities of movement specified for each element, whether sharp, smooth, aggressive, lingering, or some other quality... ...
partner optional ~ most students rotate
$35/class
$155 for any 5 Thursday classes
